We are a complicated machine.
What we are meant to do is obfuscated, partly by our biases, partly by our limitations (of perception, cognition, correlation, coordination, prediction, intelligence, etc.), partly by the complex nature of the task we accomplish, partly by the changing nature of it all.
One could wonder how we have any success at all given the propensity of the world to change, but in the grand scheme, or even just a slightly grander one than this, we exist in only a tiny moment, instant, fragment. The number of variables we have to cope with, as such, is mercifully limited.
